This product is a high-performance intercooler for MQB platforms with the EA888 GEN4 engine. Manufactured, designed and tested at our headquarters in Gloucester, United Kingdom. During the development process, we aimed to improve the efficiency and performance of the EA888 GEN4 engine. Our project brief was to develop an intercooler that utilises all available space in the original position of the OEM intercooler and to ensure that the intake air temperature is reduced without any negative effects on boost pressure or engine and transmission cooling.

In the MQB chassis, the intercooler housing is particularly small and limited in space, as it accommodates not only the intercooler but also the radiator and air conditioning condenser. The front panel is, in theory, a sandwich package that houses the additional cooling components. In order to make the intercooler larger without compromising the performance of the surrounding components, and because there is very little extra space available, it can be very difficult to achieve the perfect mix of a high-flow intercooler in such a short distance.

Our research and development engineers began with the task of fitting our existing intercooler (FMMK7FMIC) for the MK7 platform to our VW MK8 Golf R. After installation, we attempted to determine whether we could modify the intercooler with a larger inlet and outlet and a greater volumetric capacity.
